His will, dated 18 May 1710, proved 7 May 1711, mentions his mother Mary Townsend, brother Job, sister Susanna Almy, four cousins (i.e. nephews), John, Robert, Mary and Elizabeth Hix, cousin Samuel Snell, son of Samuel and Mary Snell, cousins Christopher and Solomon Townsend, cousins Deborah Hix, Ann Townsend and Hannah Townsend. He calls himself of Portsmouth, but his will was made and proved in Newport. |
Job Almy lived in Portsmouth and Warwick. On 15 Jul 1660 he was on a jury in Plymouth Colony. In 1670 and 1672 he was a Deputy from Warwick. On 7 May 1673 he was appointed on a committee to treat with the Indian Sachems about the extreme excess of Indian drunkenness. On 5 Mar 1680, he and seven others bought Pocasset (Tiverton) lands from the Indians.
His will, dated 19 Jan 1684, proved 1 Mar 1684, and the inventory of his estate indicate he was a very wealthy man at the time of his death.
