Howard S. Almy (SS No. 036-01-9073) lived in Providence all his life, and was a graduate of the former English High School. He earned a bachelor of commercial science degree at Northeastern University School of Business.

Howard was appointed credit manager of the Collyer Insulated Wire Company in 1928. He subsequently served as assistant secretary, secretary and assistant treasurer and on the board of directors. When the firm merged with Gulf & Western Industries, Inc., he continued as secretary of the Collyer Division. After retiring from Collyer, he established his own consulting business, Southgate Co., in 1970. He was a past president and a director of the Rhode Island Association of Credit Management for more than 50 years, a national vice president and director of the National Association of Credit Management, and national chairman of its committee on educational and professional development in 1950.
