A brief history of Almyville published in 1895 referred to an Almy woolen mill built about 1865 by a William Almy of Providence, RI. The woolen mill, operated by Davis Lawton, made fine woolen broadcloth. After 10 years, Samson Almy succeeded Lawton in operating the mill. The mill changed to manufacturing cotton goods. Almyville is very small and presumably its population consisted mainly of mill workers.

The William Almy referred to above, is William Humphrey Almy, b. 1832; d. 1875. He is Almy Descendant No. 1233-5143-1.

The 1850 Federal census for Plainfield, CT, lists the following household. Samson Almy 54, manufacturer; Eliza 41; William 15; Susan 13; Charles T. 10; and Mary Anna 5.
