John Almy was raised in Whippany, NJ. and attended the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from the Academy in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. Following graduation he attended Nuclear Power School at Vallejo, CA, and Nuclear Prototype training at Windsor Locks, CT. There followed a very colorful Naval career. He was entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal. I was present at the Change of Command Ceremonies when Captain John Almy took command of the Nuclear submarine, USS Georgia and after that tour when he was reassigned as Chief of Staff for Carrier Group Seven.

Jennifer graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina and was a full-fledged M.D. She was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia.
