Obituary of Captain Holder Almy (1239-2165)

From a newspaper clipping dated 1887:

"Capt. Holder Almy, who died recently at his home in Norfolk, Va, aged 58 years, was a native of Tiverton, R.I., and early entered upon a seafaring life, in which he became proficient and for many years had been accustomed to command vessels of every class. His home for years had been Virginia. In 1861 the rebels tried to press him into service as a pilot, but he was truly loyal, and with much trouble effected his escape and entered the Union service and took command of the United States steamship Guide. The flags along the wharves and shipping in Norfolk were displayed at half mast in respect to the memory of Capt. Almy."
