Ruth Bobbitt Almy (1407-1C74-3W)

Ruth Bobbitt Almy, 91, died April 21, 1998, in Huntington Beach, California. She lived in the Wilmington, Delaware area for 47 years, from 1944 to 1991.

Ruth and her husband, E. Grinnell Almy lived in Deerhurst and Windsor Hills before moving to Shipley Manor Retirement Home. Mr. Almy died in 1987, and Ruth moved to the Ingleside Retirement Home. She left Wilmington in 1991 to live near her son and daughter-in-law in Huntington Beach.

Ruth was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 10, 1906, and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1929. After her marriage in 1930 she lived in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, where her husband was employed, before moving to Wilmington in 1944.

In the 1950s she was employed as Librarian at Woodlawn Library. She was very active in the American Association of University Women (A.A.U.W.) and United Methodist Women (U.M.W.) at Grace United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the D.A.R.

Her daughter Alison Almy Kenworthy died in 1988. She is survived by her son Donald, daughter-in-law Louise and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
