Helene (Sigourney) Knowlton (1252-9773-32W)

Helene ("Lainie") Knowlton, wife of Frank W. Knowlton for over 62 years, died May 15, 1998, in Sarasota, Florida. Frank wrote "educated at The Buckingham School (now Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School) in Cambridge, MA, and at the American Business College in Paris, Lainie agreed to be my wife shortly after I finished Harvard in 1935, when our combined weekly gross pay of $35.00 per week equaled the monthly rent of our first apartment in 1936 on Beacon Hill in Boston. And we owned a 1925 Packard!

"Lainie was a laid-back, gentle, kind-hearted person who had absolutely no enemies or detractors. She was happy with simple pleasures, like the time when we cruised, alone, on a small sailboat along the length of the Maine coast, around Cape Cod, and into small harbors on Buzzards Bay. She dreamed of traveling to Florence and Greece, but we never got beyond Holland and England. She loved everyone's company. Without 'sounding off' or making statements, she was extraordinarily ethical, always honest and never devious, with old-fashioned morals tested, to be sure, by new lifestyles."

"But most of all, Lainie was always the epitome of a perfect lady, with an immense but low-key love of friends and family."
