Almy Church Vestments

In May, Dr. Stephen Brown (1481-2385-2331) sent me a "C M Almy" advertising brochure. This was a beautiful catalogue of the church vestments made and sold by C M Almy. Dr. Brown wrote "you will notice that this company has been in business since 1892." He asked "who is this C M Almy?"

The answer is that I do not know.

Sylvia Almy Littlehales Nichols (1233-5147-233 used a very nice looking engraved Almy coat-of-arms on her stationery. She wrote me back in 1975 that the coat-of-arms was from Almy and Company, makers of clerical vestments. She wrote them and obtained permission to use the coat-of-arms, but said they were very foggy about when or where it came from.

I think this is the same company and that there is no one in the current organization that knows the origin of their name. I have not come across reference to a church vestment company in the biographical information on Almys or in occupations given in the censuses. This company has an excellent product and the Almy name attached to the product is worth retaining.

Anyone know about who the Almy was that apparently founded the clerical vestment company? Please write me if you do.
