In Memoriam

Frank W. Knowlton, Jr.

(1252-9773-32)

Lindsay Warren informed me by email that his father, Frank W. Knowlton, Jr. died October 11, 2002.

Frank Warren Knowlton, Jr. was born 5 December 1912 in Weston, Massachusetts, where he attended the public school and the McAllister School. He played Varsity baseball and football, won the school trophy in track, and played on the tennis team. He finished Harvard in 1935, where he won his letter in squash, acted in the Hasty Pudding Club shows and was Officer of the Navy ROTC, among many other undergraduate activities.

In 1939, Frank received an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating in the top quarter of his class. Initially he worked for Remington Rand, but from April to November 1945 was a Senior Product Analyst in the R&D branch of the Army Quartermaster General's Office. By 1974, his principal business activity was concerned with apartment complexes for senior citizens, stemming from his duties as Executive Director of Milton Residences For The Elderly, Inc.

In 1936, he married Helene Sigourney, a descendant from French Huguenots, and whose ancestors were involved in bloody encounters with the Nipmuc Indians in Oxford, Massachusetts in the early seventeen hundreds. Frank and Helene had three children: Sabra, Lindsay, and Frank Warren, III.

(See Helene's obituary on page 3, of the January 1999 Newsletter (No. 97).
