New Zealand Vacation

By Barbara K. Almy

(1233-4668-1323)

Following is the continuation from Newsletter No. 118 (April 2004) of the journal that Barbara wrote on her New Zealand vacation in 2000. (See introduction in Newsletter No. 114.)

Tuesday April 11, 2000 continued.

Upon leaving Hokitika, I took a wrong road out of town and had to back track. We got back on the right road. Mom, Don and Lorraine all snoozed. It was a hilly, windy road with many one-lane bridges. We checked in to The Glacier View Motel. We thought the last one was the "lowest class" place we had stayed. This wins hands down in that category! But it was clean. Don & Lorraine drove up to Franz Josef Glacier. We had a drink in Mom & Dad's room. Then we went into town and bought bread, ham and bananas. I bought a Fox Glacier pin for $2.80. We had dinner at The Beeches. I had the rib eye with veggies and potato, Mom had the pumpkin soup, Dad had breaded deep-fried Camembert, Don: the spicy chicken medley with salad and Lorraine: (guess what?) The lamb! Everyone but I finished his or her meal. Mine was great and everyone else said theirs was good. We saw the constellation "Orion." We went back into the gift shop and Mom bought six towels for the women of the "Brother's & Sister's Weekend" that they are hosting in May. Don got a Franz Josef Glacier pin.

(To be continued.)
