Veda Hazel Myers Almy

(1408-3312-112W)

Veda was born July 30, 1920 in Sandy Level, Virginia, the daughter of Edgar Lee and Lucy Will (Robertson) Myers. She married in Columbus, Ohio, November 2, 1943, Merwin F. Almy. She died July 2, 2006.

While both were attending Ohio State University, they met on a blind date – but it was a very much planned and thought out blind date. At the end of the school year the fraternity planned a picnic and barn dance at the farm of an alumnus near Columbus. So some of the active fraternity members got together with their girl friends to obtain a compatible date for Merwin. Veda was the blind date. They both had an extra good time and found that they were truly soul mates. They dated each other exclusively from then on.

Veda liked to travel and as soon as Merwin retired they went on tours and cruises as the interesting opportunities came up. One of their most memorable was to the Antarctic where they found the pristine beauty to be awe inspiring. Veda also very much enjoyed the tours to England where we met and lived with the English people associated with the Pilgrim beginnings in England. In all, Veda and Merwin traveled to all 7 continents, all 50 states, and many of the countries of Europe and the Caribbean.
